AAP Leader Visits Chicago To Garner Support For Party

The Chicago Chapter of Aam Aadmi Party held a meet-and-greet session with Sukhpal Singh Khaira senior party leader from Punjab, April 28.

Khaira who is a former member of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and Punjab Legislative Assembly from Bholath, District Kapurthala, was greeted with fervor and enthusiasm by the Chicago chapter members and supporters of AAP.

Son of former Punjab education minister Sukhjinder Singh Khaira who was veteran Akali leader, Sukphpal Singh Khaira has become popular due to his fearless video series exposing and criticizing misuse of government resources by existing SAD-BJP government in Punjab.

More than 400 NRI volunteers and supporters gathered at Cascade Banquets in Bensenville, Ill. to welcome Khaira and hear him speak about the ground realities and about issues Punjab is facing today, and hear the plans of AAP to come up with solutions for the debt-ridden state.

According to Khaira, Punjab which was once had a booming in agriculture, manufacturing and sports industries, has reached bottom levels compared to every other state in India due to gross mismanagement of the two major ruling parties that have governed the state since independence.

Khaira discussed each of the problems, specifically focusing on education and agriculture, and how AAP plans to conduct dialogues with all stakeholders in Punjab to take their inputs and come up with a manifesto and execution plan for each of the 117 constituencies.

Khaira also talked passionately about a new campaign under the name of “Bolda Punjab”, which is currently ongoing with Punjabi youths across all major towns and villages in India.
Gurmukh Singh Bhullar conducted the hugely successful event with the support and strong presence of AAP supporters from Indianapolis, Milwaukee and St. Louis in addition to the large number of volunteers and supporters from Chicagoland.

Mat Singh Dhillon, Lakhbir Singh and Atul Anand welcomed the gathering and called on people of Punjab to bring the change it deserves for the state’s progress. Gurcharan Singh Jhaj and Jasbir Singh Palia shared their expectations from AAP and encouraged the gathering to support the party that is largely run via voluntarily contributions in terms of of time or money.

Kartar Singh, an Asian Games gold medalist in wrestling and former police officer who has recently joined AAP, flew in especially from Seattle to address the gathering.

Pradeep Sundriyal, Convener of AAP USA Overseas group, also welcomed the gathering and shared details about various AAP chapters in USA and how NRIs have been instrumental in helping the party since inception and how they can contribute to further success of party to help root out corruption from Punjab.

Srikanth Kocharlakota, Secretary of AAP USA Overseas wing, shared some of the major achievements of AAP’s Delhi government in education, healthcare and tackling corruption and how similar plans will be put in place once AAP forms government in Punjab in 2017.

Khaira has visited more than 13 cities in the U.S. during his 17-day whirlwind tour and has held more than two dozen meetings with the NRI’s in cities with strong AAP chapters, including New York, Chicago, New Jersey, Washington D.C., Houston, Dallas and California.

Earlier in the day a large number of supporters gathered at airport to welcome Khaira and his wife to Chicagoland. AAP Chicago Convener Ajeet Singh thanked all who were able to attend the event at short notice and shared the Chicago chapter’s enthusiasm as it looks forward to further participation of NRI’s to support AAP for upcoming Punjab Elections.
