The older brother of Trinidadian-American Nicki Minaj, who won two American Music awards last month for favorite artist, and her album-rap/hip-hop, was arrested last week for allegedly raping a child several times between April and November. Jelani Maraj, 37, of Baldwin, New York, was released Dec. 11 after her sister posted the bail amount for $100,000.
According to news reports quoting a Nassau County court official, Minaj’s brother was accused of raping a child younger than 13 several times. He was arraigned Dec. 10 in a Long Island hospital on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual conduct against a child. He was arrested Dec. 8 but suffered “an unknown medical condition” requiring him to be arraigned two days later.
It was not immediately clear from reports if Maraj entered a plea or not.
No comments were available from Minaj who was raised in nearby Queens County. The New York Post reported that the bond was backed by two of the rapper’s homes in Baldwin. It said that back in August, she reportedly footed the bill for his wedding to longtime girlfriend Jacqueline Robinson.
