Indian-American women from all walks of life gathered at 11venues across North America to learn, network, share and introspect at conferences held by the BAPS last month to celebrate International Women’s Day. This year’s theme was Moving Forward, where women gathered as a community of change makers, pausing to celebrate their achievements.
The conference featured speakers, interactive learning, and networking to help women advance in their personal and professional lives, taking a step in the right direction, to share challenges in the pursuit of ambition, and encouraged participants to introspect on how to become more efficient leaders. Speakers explored key concepts of compassion, forgiveness, and perseverance through sharing their personal stories of leadership, a BAPS press release said.
In the North East, over 1,800 women gathered at various BAPS Swaminarayan temples in, New York, Edison and Robbinsville in New Jersey, and Washington, D.C., to participate in the annual conference.
In New York, Dr. Uma Mysorekar, president of the Hindu Temple Society of North America, spoke of compassion being one of the strongest attributes she holds as a leader. She shared her personal journey of finding happiness through compassion for herself and others.
The conference continued with a session on forgiveness, and how it can help one advance life in ways previously thought unimaginable. “If we want to live a happy life, we must forgive. If we want to lead a healthy life, we must forgive. In order to move forward, we must forgive,” said, Rupal Patel, at the Edison conference. She led the audience through an interactive discussion on practicing the art of forgiveness and left attendees with a challenge to move forward from negative situations and circumstances where the audience was encouraged to put themselves in the shoes of another and learn to let go, as forgiveness leads to healing and happiness.
