More than 350 people from the tristate area attended Holi celebrations hosted by the Bihar Jharkhand Association of North America (BJANA) at Royal Albert’s Palace in Fords, New Jersey on March 22. BJANA members, who trace their roots in the states of Bihar and Jharkhand, networked over cocktails and appetizers, and later settled down to an evening of cultural presentations and traditional dinner.
In his speech, President Bhawesh Choudhary announced that BJANA will celebrate its Foundation Day to mark the group’s 40th anniversary along with the group’s annual Diwali event later this year. Choudhary also informed members of the new initiatives and changes voted upon during the meetings. The group has partnered with Smile Train, to provide funding for free cleft surgeries in Bihar and Jharkhand, Choudhary said.
Members were honored for their support and commitment to BJANA. Ranjit Sinha, BJANA founding member, presented a plaque of honor to Saroj Kumar and Dr. Anil Kumar for their generosity and support; while past president Shashi Sinha presented the plaque of honor to Dr. Nishi Sahay and Dr. Rajiv Sahay for their unwavering support to BJANA. Choudhary announced about his committee’s nomination of Renu Sinha and Dr. Binod Sinha for the Plaque of Honor which will be presented to the couple during the upcoming Diwali event later this year.
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed back to back cultural programs presented by more than 60 participants of all ages including fashion shows, Bhojpuri folk dance, and performances by school going kids and professional dance troupes. Audience also Bhojpuri folk Holi songs sung by local artists from the BJANA community with support of thedholak. Concluding the evening’s events, trophies were given to outstanding achievers from the BJANA community in the fields of art and culture.
