Glenbard Students Present “A Suitable Boy” at India Night

Glenbard North High School’s Indian Student Association (ISA) in Carol Stream hosted its seventh annual India Night, Feb. 27 and 28. One of the largest high school cultural shows in Illinois, the 2015 theme was “A Suitable Ladka,” which depicted through the story of a mother seeking the right boy for her daughter to marry. The emerging love story aimed to reconcile the apparent clash between tradition and modernity.

The show included various sequences: singing, dancing, acting and fashion show. Dances included Garba, Raas, Bollywood modern, oldies, fusion, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Bhangra, etc.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the ISA – each year the students continue to impress me more and more with their hard work and dedication,” said ISA adviser Kevin Erday. “This is more than just a student association – it’s a family, and we all love each other and want the show to be a success. This experience is so worthwhile and rewarding because of the relationships we create and foster here. We can’t wait to do it all again next year.”

ISA boasts more than 150 members, all of whom participated in India Night 2015 in some capacity, performing as well as behind the scenes including props, lighting, sound, costume, etc. ISA has three advisors, Kevin Erday, Antonina Benigno and Allyson Feierberg. Its 12-member executive board comprises Priya Patel, Riddhi Soni, Siddhi Soni, Priya Rajan, Bansari Patel, Purva Shah, Sana Abbasi, Sheel Vohra, Karan Mehta, Ohm Shukla, Maria Shenny and Reeva Savani.
