Comedian Jerry Seinfeld is making his debut performance in India as part of the Stage42 festival, a new venture by OML and NH7, next month. “I have always been fascinated by India and its culture. I have great respect for its people and their way of life. It is a great honor for me to be invited,” the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning stand-up comedian said in a statement.
Seinfeld will perform two shows in Mumbai as part of the festival on March 14 and 15 at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium, marking his first ever performance in Asia.
Presenting over 150 shows all over the country in seven cities — Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune — between February and March, the festival opened Feb. 11 in Mumabi. Comedians from around the world and India will come together for the festival including Indo-Canadian comedian Russell Peters, as well as a huge lineup of Indian comics including All India Bakchod, Pretentious Nights and Anuvab Pal, among others. The festival aims to showcase some of India’s and the world’s most celebrated artists and performers in comedy, music, theater and food.
Comedian Bill Burr was to perform at the festival in Mumbai over the Feb. 13 weekend.
While the Stage42 festival is already underway in India, Seinfeld, the Brooklyn-born co-creator of the legendary sitcom “Seinfeld,” is coming to India. has just been added to the bill and organizers says they are delighted to have him on board. “For many of us, our introduction to comedy was Seinfeld. He’s a comedian whose influence is impossible to understate, and it’s a matter of immense pride that we will be bringing this global icon to India for the first time,” Arjun Ravi, co-founder of NH7.in said in a statement.
