An Upstate New York man was sentenced to prison last week for a 2013 crash that killed a woman while intoxicated along 117th Street near 97th Avenue in Richmond Hill. Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown announced the 1½ to 4 year sentence Jan. 13 for 24-year-old Vishwanand Subryan of Schenectady.
Subryan pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in November. Prosecutors said he had been drinking before the crash. The victim, 59-year-old Raj K. Chohan, was found on the ground between two parked cars. Chohan was taken to Jamaica Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Officers pursued the defendant, who ran a stop sign and a red light before they pulled him over. He’ll be required to use an ignition lock – a device that does not allow a car to start if the driver’s blood alcohol content is above the legal limit — for three years after he gets out of prison, the Queens Chronicle reported.
