Members of the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin hailing from 27 countries will converge in Chandigarh, for the 5th annual conference of GAPIO to be held Jan. 10 and 11 at Hotel J W Marriott.
Dr. Sanku Rao, president of GAPIO and Dr. Sudhir Parikh, treasurer of the organization, will be leading a strong delegation of doctors from the United States to attend the conference.
The conference will focus on the theme “Meeting the Healthcare Challenges”. More than 300 delegates from India, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, countries from the Middle East, Africa, and the United Arab Emirates, will be attending the conference.
India’s Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J. P. Nadda will be the chief guest and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will be the guest of honor at the evening function. Awards will be presented on the evening of Jan. 10 when the conference begins. This will be followed by dinner and an entertainment program.
The two-day conference will cover clinical sessions in specializations like cardiology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, oncology, diabetes, nephrology, transplantation and paediatrics. There will also be non-clinical sessions on subjects like “Voices from Overseas – what NRI doctors can do to improve healthcare delivery”, “Voices of Physician Associations – what associations can do for improving healthcare delivery” and “GAPIO – Making An Impact”. About 50 international and national speakers will cover these topics.
Conference is being held in association with the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO), the National Indian Medical Association (IMA), the Canadian Association of Physicians of Indian Heritage (CAPIH), and the SPS Apollo Hospitals, Ludhiana.
