The Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Temple, Secaucus, in partnership with the Indian Health Camp of New Jersey (IHCNJ), hosted its 10th annual free health camp Nov. 9.
More than 250 underinsured and uninsured South Asians in the tristate area attended the camp, a temple press release said. Registered participants were able to receive blood tests, electrocardiograms (EKG), physical and dental exams, eye screenings, physical therapy and pharmacy counseling, prostate and breast cancer screening, mental health education, cholesterol and glucose screenings.
Over 100 health professionals and assistants, from IHCNJ and the temple, volunteered their time to give back to the community, the press release said.
The temple and IHCNJ also partnered with several community health organizations to offer education and counseling to the patients. Accurate Diagnostic Labs provided the complimentary blood test services and Bayshore Pharmacy also provided flu shots at a nominal cost; and the temple gave complimentary breakfast and lunch to all the patients and volunteers.
New Jersey Assemblyman Raj Mukherji visited the temple to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Health Camp and present a Joint Proclamation from the New Jersey State Senate and Assembly.
