With its vision to help make India a global hub of high-quality mobile developers, Google has announced it is working on an Android Skilling program in India that aims to train two million mobile developers.
By unveiling multiple initiatives across training partners and universities, Google is looking to make world-class Android Developer education accessible to millions of students and developers.
The Android Skilling program, the company said last month, the program will be introduced for free across hundreds of public and private universities and training schools through a specially designed, in-person program this year. It would also be available through the government’s National Skills Development Corporation of India.
“This course is designed for computer science students and guides students through building apps as they develop the skills needed to get an entry-level job as an Android developer,” the company was quoted by Bloomberg as saying in a blog post. “After completing the course and building the apps in the course, students should be ready to take the exam for the Associate Android Developer Certification.”
Google will work with training partners such as Edureka, Koenig, Manipal Global, Simplilearn, Udacity and UpGrad to provide quality control on trainers and courses.
“We are hoping to get in about 2,000 different universities, training about 4,000 faculty to reach in excess of 250,000 students in these universities every year,” Peter Lubbers, head of developer trading at Google, told Bloomberg.
Google’s move will help it keep pace with Apple in the region. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently made his first trip to the country to build up the brand. Google, however, has an edge in India reports said, when it comes to the pricing on its devices.
