The Association of Indians in America hosted a welcome dinner for the new Consul General of India in New York, Ambassador Riva Ganguly Das, at the Swan Club in Long Island March 31.
The event was attended by AIA members, community leaders, friends of the AIA and some officials from the New York consulate.

Ambassador Das addressed the audience, encouraging the community to work with the consulate in all matters as the strength of the community is togetherness.

Das has promised to strengthen consular affairs and provide a smooth experience for all. The community is expected to benefit from her presence in New York. The evening was followed by dinner and mingling.

The AIA in America is the oldest organization of its kind and has been the pioneer in providing Indians a presence here in the United States.

Since its inception in 1960 to now, the AIA has gone far and beyond to make this happen. Current N.Y. Chapter president of the organization, Sunil Modi, mentioned to the consul general and the audience, that now “we do not have to be just Indian or American, we can be both.”

The motto of the AIA explains that beautifully – ‘Indian Heritage, American Commitment.’

AIA National President Shashi Shah encouraged the audience in regards to the importance of being both an Indian and an American, followed up by welcoming the consul general.
