The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin has nabbed some high flyers for its 34th Annual Convention scheduled to be held at Times Square, June 30 to July 4.

Organizers told News India Times CNN talk-show host Fareed Zakaria will be the moderator at a “CEO Forum” where representatives from top hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, nursing homes, officials from Medicare and others would be on the panel.

Governors in the tri-state area, Nobel Laureates, presidential candidates and other politicos, would also attend the five day convention, but their names would divulged at a later date, current AAPI President Dr. Seema Jain, and Convention Chair Dr. Ritu Ahuja said.

Apart from the first-ever CEO Forum, there will be a first Women’s Leadership Forum. Other highlights include an innovation forum, entrepreneur forum, “Men’s Forum”, and “Product Theaters” to highlight the newest advances in patient care and medical technology. There will also be an “AAPI -India Strategic Engagement Forum” to highlight AAPI’s achievements in India, and AAPI award winners will be recognized, Dr. Sanjay Jain, chief coordinating officer of the convention, had announced at a Feb. 12 curtain raiser at the Indian Consulate in New York.

The convention is being held in the Marriott Marquis on Times Square, and as such, attendees would enjoy all that the Big Apple has to offer, organizers said.

The theme of the convention is “Healthcare 2020 and Beyond” and will include the traditionally well-attended Continuing Medical Education seminars that attract specialists in their fields. The Young Professionals and Students section as well as the Medical Students and Residents wing of AAPI can look forward to the entrepreneurship and a competition on best business plans, and the much-anticipated Research Poster Competition.

A Singles Meet” for youth and a “Second Inning” for older singles are planned for the occasion, as is nightly entertainment from top Bollywood singers and performers including Sunidhi Chauhan, Mika Singh and Indian Idol 5.

The trades section of AAPI will showcase around 40 booths and health industry sponsors as well as auxiliary businesses like jewelry and clothing merchants will be able to interact with attendees. Holistic yoga sessions, women’s meetings and alumni meetings will be held during the four days. Spiritual leader Sadhguru will be present as well.

“Professionalism and medicine will be the highlight of the meetings, but being in the heart of New York City, one cannot miss the culinary, cultural and other delights this city has to offer,” Drs. Jain and Ahuja stressed.

This year’s convention is being organized by AAPI’s New Jersey Chapter, and Dr. Ahuja is being assisted by a “dedicated” team of convention committee members from the Tri-State region, she said.
