Global Healthcare Summit In New Delhi Honors Physicians

The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin recognized several physicians and awarded prizes to Indian academicians, scientists, students, interns, residents, and fellows who participated in its first “Research & Poster Contest” held during the 10th Global Healthcare Summit in New Delhi Jan. 1 to 3.

Winners of the highly competitive “Research and Poster Contest” were recognized with cash awards and citations on Jan.2 during a gala presided over by India’s Minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma at the Maurya ITC Hotel in New Delhi.

According to organizers, more than 140 abstracts were received in the categories of Clinical Sciences and Patient Based Research; Basic Science/Translational research; Innovations in Healthcare; and Hospital and Healthcare Administration; The Research Committee headed by Dr. Gopal Batra selected the winners. Dr. Sudhir Parikh, publisher of News India Times and recipient of India’s Padma Shri award, sponsored the Clinical Science research awards which included a1st prize of Rs. 1 lakh, a 2nd prize of Rs. 50,000, and Rs. 25,000 for third place.

“I believe when you encourage this generation as they go through their training, you help them go on to become good physicians,” said Dr. Parikh who presented the awards for clinical science at the event.

During the event, Dr. Parikh also received the “Global Indian” award from AAPI, for his work in bringing India and the U.S. closer together in various fields, including medicine.

This was the first time that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences joined with AAPI to hold the contest. “We are looking forward to a very progressive partnership and take this to new heights of collaboration in the coming years,” Dr. Seema Jain, president of AAPI is quoted saying in a press release.

In the Clinical Sciences and Patient Based Research category, Dr. Anmol Sharma won the 1st Prize, while Dr. Raghav Singla got the 2nd Prize. In the Basic Science/ Translational research category, the 1st prize winner was Dr. Pradeep Suri, and the 2nd prize went to Dr. Saptharishi L.G. Dr. Nitin Gupta won the 3rd prize.

In the Hospital and Healthcare Administration category Dr. Vijaydeep Siddharth won 1st place; Dr. Moonis Mirza the 2nd and 3rd place went to Dr. Vibha Gupta. The Innovations in Healthcare category winners were Dr. M. Praveen Kumar in 2nd place and Dr. Sarul Malik in the 3rd place. The 1st place winner’s name was not mentioned in the press release.

Dr. Jain and Anwar Feroz, AAPI’s strategic advisor, were among others who were honored with plaques for their dedication and leadership.
