Pakistani playback singer Farha Anwar, on her first U.S. tour, performed live for almost four hours at a concert co-hosted by Masti Grill and Deccan Cultural Academy (DCA) at The Meadows Club, Rolling Meadows, Illinois, May 16. She sang her own songs and hits from Bollywood films.
Masti’s two favorite local artists, Mahijit Virdi and Imran Durani, opened the evening. Durani rendered Rahat Fateh Ali Khan specials.
Introducing Anwar, DCA’s Dr. Siraj Ahmed said she began learning music at home from her musician-father. Starting her career with PTV Lahore, her break came with the song “Main Tenu Samjhawan ki” in the movie “Virsa,” sung with Sufi king, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. This evergreen tune has been subsequently sung by many top artistes in India and Pakistan. Her new playback songs are scheduled for release this year.
This was the first celebrity show being presented by Masti, established in 2013 by Mujeeb Ahmed. Masti promotes Indo-Pakistani culture, especially music. DCA was founded in 2004 by Siraj Ahmed to support cultural activities from the Indian subcontinent in North America.
