Divyang Parikh

Dr. Divyang Parikh of Staten Island was among four individuals honored at a dinner hosted by Democratic congressional candidate Domenic Recchia to celebrate the 68th Independence Day of India and Pakistan. More than 50 community activists and family members attended the event during which Recchia presented the awards on Aug. 4 at the Indian Clove restaurant in
Grasmere, according to a news report on Staten Island Live.

The Award of Medical Excellence was presented to Dr. Parikh and Dr. Kanwardeep S. Aiden, while Nabila Hussain received the Service Award, and Dr. Mazhar N. Malik was given the Leadership Award.

“It’s always so inspiring to attend events like this, where we can celebrate each other’s achievements across different cultures and backgrounds,” Staten Island Live quoted Recchia as saying. “Over the years, members of the Indian and Pakistani communities have played a larger role in business, culture, arts, and medicine throughout Staten Island, so to be here to congratulate them on that success is a real honor,” he said. “I am very lucky to be a part of the Staten Island family,” Dr. Parikh said, adding that he takes pride in serving the community.

In his address, Dr. Parikh credited his wife Dr. Renu Parikh for his success, and expressed gratitude to his office staff, who have been by his side for the last 25 years.

Dr. Parikh, a board-certified gastroenterologist and internist, has been practicing medicine on the Island since 1987. In 1988, he established a gastroenterology department at what is now Staten Island Physician Practice in Sunnyside. He was a member of the board of directors of the former Doctors’ Hospital, Concord, and served on several committees of what is now Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton.
