Woodbridge, New Jersey resident Mohan Kommanaboina is among Consulting Magazine’s Rising Stars of the Profession – 35 Under 35, highlighting the best young talent in the consulting profession. Kommanaboina, 34, is a Management Consulting Manager at KPMG and has been in the profession for over 12 years.
Kommanaboina has played a significant role in starting KPMG’s SAP IT Governance, Risk and Compliance Business, and helping drive growth from just six members to more than 180 in just six years.
A key member of KPMG’s IT GRC consulting group, Kommanaboina was one of just 16 national winners of KPMG’s Chairman Award for High Performance. “I have always set high standards for myself regardless of how challenging they may be,” Kommanaboina told the magazine. “Performing at the highest level I have been able to accomplish the goals I set for myself and find success within my career.”
Growing up in “not very well to do family” near Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, Kommanaboina completed his engineering in Chennai and got his first job in TCS where he worked for three years, Kommanaboina told Desi Talk. He later moved to the U.S. and worked at various consulting firms. He joined KPMG in 2008.
Along with his consulting career, for which he travels client sites across the U.S., Kommanaboina also devotes his time and earnings to social causes. Having known firsthand the challenges and difficulties of growing up poor, Kommanaboina said he has adopted 10 children from his home state in India and currently supports their education. Ten percent of his salary is used to support them, he said. Along with that, Kommanaboina also supports a literacy initiative started by KPMG for underprivileged children.
